The farm today

SAM 5078

The Limetrees farm is very close to the city, we can speak about suburban agriculture.

Most of the time the periphery of the city is a constraint for the dairy farmer, Michel Cantaloube prefers consider it like an opportunity because he is closer to his customers.

In this rubric we hope to show you our life on the farm and to present to you who are the lovely women that you can ear moo when you are taking your milk.

The dairy parlour

Renovated in 1992, it permits to milk 10 cows together. The cows are milked 2 times a day, at 7 am and 6 pm.

The dairy cows

To produce quality milk during all the years the cows are put up in optimal conditions.

A shed totally closed to protect them of the rain and the cold during winter time.

For the summers, Michel installed fans and sprayers to keep a good temperature inside.

 The nursery

During the third firsts month of their life calves are living in a shed especially for them.

Sheltered from the bad weather and the cold they drink milk 2 times a day. Some of them make sometimes a trip until the city, next to the raw milk distributor.

The herd replacement

All the females’ calves who born on the farm are bred to become one day a dairy cow. We can see them enjoying the long summer days running in the field.
